In its simplest form the law states that a cucumber placed in a pickle barrel is more likely to become a pickle than to talk the current residents into again becoming cucumbers.
The barrel’s allure is quite enticing and offers
- A relaxed life style (little is expected),
- Reduced stress,
- Their skills will shine relative to their counterpart,
- and it is a chance to get experience.
Sadly many one of us become quite comfortable, and after a few years tend to smell and taste a little like… a pickle. Invariably the first step is to get out of the pickle barrel, or better yet, don't ever get in the barrel.

Avishek brings up some real good posts to initiate debate; I feel this is one such topic which needs our attention. I urge upon all team members to contribute some original/borrowed/read thoughts which can lead the discussion to some conclusion.

As a first step let's define amongst ourselves the meaning of mediocrity and arrive at a common understanding of what this word intends to convey.
To me it brings up the images of very average and ordinary, often associated with lowest common denominator, a bare minimum comfortable ground level where all can comfortably achieve. A state of being or situation which may be described as almost good (though, not good exactly), Chalta Hhai type.

For me mediocrity is a very subjective term.In a group of A+ if you score A,then you are a mediocre.
But in true sense mediocrity is the lack of ability to think out of the box or take up challenges.Its like someone with a run-of-the-mill attitude and thinking.And a system which lack the ability to nurture out of the box thinking give rise to mediocracy in a organization.
I am waiting for some more comments here, hope Avishek too agrees to this. Lest it becomes a mere dialogue between original poster and mortal me (yours truly).
